With 2kms to go, we got a bit of unexpected encouragement - one the of Land Rover guys had brought along his bagpipes to add a bit of drama for the final batch of die-hards making their way to the end. I stumbled in last on Day 2, a couple of cyclists had given up along the way, and extra transport arrangements had to be made to 'ship' the stranded and exhausted combatants from the lunch spot and along the sandy beaches thereafter. Eulogy, Leonie and I brought up the royal rear, and with 500m to go, they suddenly worked out how to get the upper hand in the sand, leaving me to limp (or rather push bike very slowly) home.
